Adam's Home!

Adam arrived in Colorado Springs on Thursday, Feb 11 at around 4:15 PM .. He had left Singapore at 7PM Tuesday our time. So, he was travelling for 45 hours to get here. He missed his connecting flight in San Francisco, so spent the night in the San Francisco Airport Hyatt. Then flew home on Thursday. It's great to have him home.

Letter #105 - Week of 3 Feb 2010 - "Your son is going to be a star!"

Hello,

Well, I really don't know what to say. Not a whole lot has transpired since the last time I emailed. A couple of more sick days and a couple of appointments saying goodbye to people and some errands that have to get done before I go home.

This will probably be the last time I write. We may find time in Singapore, especially at the airport, to get on the free computers (which are everywhere), but I don't know how much time we'll have.

We fly to Singapore on Monday. We will have some time to have fun and go shopping there, and we will have some sort of dinner on Tuesday night with President Clark. Then, of course, on Wednesday I fly to Hong Kong, then from Hong Kong I go back in time toward America. I'll be on the same flight as Elder Shipp and Elder Hall to Salt Lake, so that will be fun.

I got registered for classes. Elder Hall had asked for permission to go on Monday, the first day registration was open, so I also got permission to go. It was nice, because 3 PM here is midnight there, so we got on at the first possible moment, which was important, because I got the last spot in the anatomy class I need to take. I'll be taking anatomy, molecular biology, chemistry, Book of Mormon, and the class I'm most looking forward to, Basic Vocal Training. Your son is going to be a star.

I was talking to Elder Hall about the classes I want to take. I mentioned that singing class, and said I wasn't sure that I wanted to take it. I might take marriage prep, or something else. Picking up on my meaning, he responded "Both of those classes have the same purpose, huh?"

I guess I should have thought this e-mail out in a little more detail. I'm stuck with nothing to say. Well, I have something to say, just not the words.
I guess I'll just write my testimony.

I know God our Father in Heaven lives and loves us. I know He has provided the way for us to become like Him, and that way is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the opportunity I have had to serve Him, to help accomplish God's work and glory, his purpose, here in Malaysia.

You all have heard a thousand times before, the feelings people have about their missions. I expect when I go home, and see people whom I have not seen for a long time, they will ask me "How was your mission?" That's a sincere question, that will prompt my best attempt at a response. But I will always have a thought come up in my head that I will not vocalize, "Come on! When do you ever hear people say that they didn't absolutely love their mission?" And so it is with me. I think it would be prideful to claim that a lot has not changed over the last 2 years. A few days ago, I was reading in the Book of Mormon about Ammon and his brothers, who at the close of their mission posed this question "What great blessings has he bestowed upon us? Can ye tell?" And so I wrote a few blessings which I have gained, ignoring for a moment the blessings that have come to the people whom I have served.

I have gained faith, and an increased understanding of the role of good works and knowledge, and the importance of confidence.
I have become more cheerful and patient and optimistic.
I have become more patient with the weaknesses of others and myself.
I have become more patient in the relatively small afflictions I am called to pass through.
I have come to better understand prayer and revelation.
I have learned to recognize and follow the Spirit.

With love,
Elder Muffler
